I have less than 3 years of experience after college. I made through E5 quickly by working off of my ass and some luck. I know I need to appreciate my current situation, but I just can’t. Performance review is going on and I’m probably going to get a decent rating this time too, but I really couldn’t care less. I’m just tired of meeting so many requirements and launching new features that I don’t value from my heart. I dream of jumping ship or starting my own startup but I barely have any energy to do that. I just show up at work, try to do the bare minimum, and get back to home like a zombie. I’m being very sensitive to everything and not as kind as before to people around me, which I feel guilty and bad about myself. Today I almost wanted to yell at everyone in the office and never come back. What should I do? I thought about quitting and just doing nothing for a couple of months, but the idea of staying unemployed at such an early stage of career scares me so much. I really have no idea what to do...
You should quit and move to another industry. And quit whining so much, ppl work 3-4 jobs to make ends meet and support their families.
Rest and vest at Google.
OP, I was in your situation at another company. Once I moved over to Google, I healed so much. My hair got thicker, I got to a healthy weight, I was finally able to find and create a happy healthy relationship. Now I’m all good and want a little more of what you have - I guess this is cyclical (??)
You said it yourself "I'm just tired of meeting so many requirements and launching new features that I don't value from my heart." Take some vacation or at least some sick days. Give yourself some time to relax and reflect on what's important to you. You're at FB and made it to E5 with less than 3 YOE, you won't be unemployed for long with those credentials and work ethic :)
Thank you for kind words.
I’ve felt this way too. Take a long time off and don’t think about or do any work. Do the things you enjoy. And when you get back to work, don’t be too hard on yourself, its just work.
I feel you. I don't know what makes us happy about work. I hate my job but I love my money. It's a tough spot to be in. Problem is if you are well off and unhappy you feel ungrateful
Do you have PTO? Take vacation. If you don't have much, just do a long weekend. Go to where you find is most relaxing. If you don't have PTO, see if you can take unpaid time off.. harder but ya One week can work wonders
Take a relaxing break. Explore new cultures for a couple of weeks and come back. Talk to your manager if the person understands. This is quite common. I would give you a break for 2 weeks and not apply for leave if I was your manager. Chill!
I hear you man... keep your head up - I wish you the best and hope you can find something you feel passionately about
It is idiots like you who make it hard for yourself and everyone in the group. My stupid manager used to keep on comparing me and others in the group with someone like you. This resulted in many of us leaving that group/company. I left that company and now I'm happy at apple. People like you don't deserve to be a part of a team. Just go run your one man show somewhere..
It's not your teammate's fault. It's the manager's. You are hired to meet the requirements and if you do, but still feel unsatisfied, the problem is with the one managing your team. Him working excessively is his choice just like how you barely want to meet deadline.
That's why I said *stupid* manager. But the problem is not many do because of passion, majority do for money/promotions like OP. Do you think OP would have continued doing had he/she not gotten promoted/rewarded consistently? Companies want to extract as much work as possible and I don't have any doubt about it..if it's otherwise people like OP wouldn't be encouraged by the manager/company..
