I’m looking at two homes ( 1 in UC and other in Newark) both are beautiful single family homes . Here are pros and cons for each 1. UC home is in top elementary school district , safe community walkable to union landing and a bit closer to SF for commute . Cons : the house is slightly smaller ( 1900 sq ft) and my friends give me weird looks when I say a bought a house in UC. 2.Newark home is bigger 2000 sq ft , 50 K lesser than UC home, safer community and lots of FB crowd . Cons: really shit schools . Commute wise not much of a diff for me and my spouse as both are 2-3 miles away from each other Please advice what’s better longer term (5-7 years )
Define what’s long term for you first before you decide. If you plan to have kids who will be sent to public school in 5 yrs go for UC or else decide based on cost, commute etc.
So, the only reason you don’t want to live in UC is because of weird looks? It’s not their house so fuck them. Go where the better schools are unless you’re sending your kids to private school.
Are "not good public schools" here in norcal really really bad? Is it comparable to like schools in south central LA or New Jersey's Camden? I cant imagine the kids getting too out of hands surrounded by a bunch of engineers offsprings. I grew up in westminster and attended a 4/10 rated high school fill with 90 gangbangs and did pretty okay.
Newark and UC are the new candidates for waste management when Milpitas overflows. Good luck.
Milpitas home prices have gone over the roof despite dump smell. Plus it doesn’t affect me anymore
Search for Bayside Newark development. Tons of future potential if you are not concerned about school ratings
Lol building homes over bulldozed chemical plant... You couldn't pay me enough money to move there.
What’s the potential in UC? I mean if Newark appreciates thinking UC should too
Newark New houses are good. Worst case you can send to private school.
price difference is currently 50K? I would think a top rated school district vs a shite one is worth a lot more. Even if school options don’t matter to you, it def will to many future buyers. Long term, schools can improve as neighborhoods gentrify (but maybe less so in places where wealthy new comers just send their kids to private schools instead of getting involved in school boards, fundraising, local politics, etc.)
Those 1800-1900 sqft houses in UC are going 50k-100K over list prices sometimes. Ultimately good elementary school will lead to a good high school over 5-10 years.
Thing is UC has only 1 high school .. so just 1 group of smart kids can’t elevate high school ranking
