Buying Tesla Model 3

AT&T Skahdekjs
Dec 12, 2018

Am I being a dumbass buying a MR model 3 as a new grad who's only worked for a year? I live at home so I do save a lot of money on rent. Already max my 401k, invest in index/mutual funds.

TC: 115k

Move out, having independence is more important than a shiny toy. You learn a lot about yourself and life not living at home. I could buy a new Lamborghini if I lived with my parents, and just think about if you met someone like that how ridiculous that sounds.

Well I work super close to home so I think it makes more sense to save money on rent living at home. I do plan on moving out though.

      Makes sense.

Also not to sound rude, but find a new job ASAP. You’re way underpaid for living in the Bay Area.

I mean buying a Lamborghini is quite different than the cheapest model 3 with a $10k rebate, but I understand your point.

$45k on a car when you make $115k and have no home is still silly.

It's $35k with the tax credits.

Do they actually sell 45k models now?

Well I ordered already. My delivery date is next Wednesday. But I have a day to decide if I want to return it for a full refund.

It’s an amazing car. You won’t regret it. I hope you got the auto pilot as well. Congrats.

@HPE how is he underpaid for a new grad? Pretty sure HPE has similar or maybe even lower offer

I’m dying for a model s myself. Just can’t justify it. TC 350k and I own my home.

The Rock- i feel the same. Any other debts other than your mortgage?

Nope just the mortgage. I can “afford” it as I’m saving 50% of my TC a year but it just feels so irresponsible. As much as I love them.

The 3 feels too compromised with the ugly dash and monitor. It’s S or bust. And it has to have autopilot and increased range....so 107k.

      You?

Model 3 long range with auto pilot is 62k incl taxes.
Do you want to spend 50k just to have a better dashboard? Seems like a no brained to me.
Also, I think model 3 is superior to model s as many of the internal components are newer.

Same situation. I had my eye on a used S, but the 3 is a newer, more advanced car for the same expense. Undecided.

Aren’t lot of new grads buying M3? Is that even big of a deal if you don’t have debt ?

Waste of money. Get a 3 year old used car instead.

You barely have any money and you bought an expensive car from a startup company that screws its customers and makes them beta test their new cars. If you ever get in a minor wreck good luck getting replacement parts. Congratulations.
