Buying home in Fremont, but what if I get a job in SF?

as title. The home is just across the bridge to FB. But I am in the interview process with Airbnb and Uber in downtown SF.

If I don’t decide on the home in the next few days, it may be sold. It is a hot home.

Yes, buy and rent it out if job moves to SF.

Buying to rent makes absolutely no sense with home prices right now

The commute is horrible. Don’t do it.

Commute almost anywhere in Bay Area sucks. Fremont they may be able to get a seat on bart - which could make it an OK commute.

All seats are taken in the first two stations. OPs station will be third or fourth on BART route.

Practice standing with your standing desk. I choose to stand on Bart.

Fremont is the 2nd stop unless I’m missing something here. South Fremont/warm springs would be the first (not sure which one OPs home is closer to). It’s about 50 min Bart ride to salesforce tower... fairly decent commute by Bay Area standards

      To each his own.

(Fremont is not the closest stop near Dumbarton bridge, where the OP is planning to buy a house.)

Commute time has been found to have a direct impact on your happiness, no surprises there. Buying a home is a big deal, don’t you think it’s better to figure out the commute first given that OP will know in a few days.

For sure man! .. I totally get it. but he is not going to be there for long ( I hope ) what if his next job is in Cupertino ...and the next one at San Bruno..

Finding a home that is your rock and having good neighbors and a good school etc would be my first priority.

Then you commute. Try commuting from Walnut Creek to Palo Alto on public transportation.

Fremont to the City? Piece of Cake!

Also BART doesn’t go close to Airbnb, and will not be close to Uber once Mission Bay opens up. So your commute will be 1 hour on Bart plus 20-30 min walk/bike/uber.

If you get a job at Uber then, Uber everyday. If you decide to go to Airbnb, rent out your home in Airbnb and stay in a Airbnb during weeknights.
If you're single then don't buy home and live in SF.

I commute to SF via Caltrain every day from Fremont and it takes me 1.5 hours door-to-door.

First of all, you need to have someone carpool with you so that you can get onto the HOV on 84 bridges to save some time. Secondly, you need to get to the Palo Alto Caltrain station before 8:40 AM everyday to catch the bullet trains which means that you need to leave your house in Fremont before 8:00 AM.

In case you have some time to make the decision, try working from Facebooks office in SF for two weeks straight. Count the hours it takes for you to commute. Note your comfort level. Note the restrictions you need to deal with. Try finding time for gym, kids, friends and family. Try finding a few extra hours for work (to simulate crunch time). Do you help out with kids in the mornings? If so, see how that part is affected.
