Houses in Mountain house (CA Bay area) are beautiful and affordable. Any body traveling from Mountain house to Menlo Park / Sunnyvale / Mountain view/ Palo Alto for work? What are your experiences/thoughts? Please comment.

Commute is about 55 miles.

I had a couple of coworkers commute from there. Only possible if you commute one or two days per week and WFH on other days.
One person I know sold the big house in Tracy and moved back to a condo in bay area.

Looked into moving down there a couple years ago and did a lot of research on commuting from Tracy/MH. ACE looked like best option

It’s a terrible commute that will suck the life out of you. You’re better off living in a shed than spending 4-5 hrs a day in your car doing stop and go.

I met someone who lived there, they said it’s becoming worse crime wise. Cartels are buying homes there and using them as weapons caches and drug storage.

Hahaha this is the dumbest response I’ve seen yet, it’s a strong family oriented neighborhood not some gang affiliated war zone. People on Blind can be crazy

It used to be nicer, from what I heard. I randomly met a hoodlum who grew up there and he told me about it. Look up the police blotter if you don’t believe it.

    Brutal commute, no?

  • 2-3 hours commute each way during rush hour traffic. Maybe if you have Tesla with full self driving you can just sleep during commute so it's not as bad.

It’s a recipe for death. Tesla is still level 2 AD. Keep your hands on the wheel dummy

I think the determining factor is how close will your job be to the train station. Train is 1:15 commute consistent every day, and you can work on the train. That’s how I get in and out of Seattle from south King County and it’s great! If you can’t make the train work don’t even think about trying to commute from there!

Right, in the valley the train only goes to Santa Clara and San Jose from where there is no easy connections to most employers. Also the train station in Tracy 20 minute drive from MH.

I say move to Seattle! Similar wages, way cheaper housing, better commuting with the Sounder

What is the potential for renting the house for a tenant?

I'm thinking not many would rent as it is too far. Any thoughts?

Buying in mountain house is fine. Living in mountain house sucks.

Don't over think this. This option is stretching it too much. 4-6 hours of commute in a day will affect your health, mental calm and family relationships (no time to spend with the family). Your living situation is supposed to be easy and uncomplicated.
