I have a old reliable Toyota, 1997 I'm not much into cars this one doesn't look great but is good for commute has decent milage and needs next to no maintenance. Should I look to buy or keep this one? Is this looked down on? TC: 330 YOE: 10
I wonder if the poll had “Oracle” instead of “Toyota”, would the results be the opposite?
That'd be a buy for sure, lol. No longer there.
When I started making a significantly higher income, I sold my old Subaru and bought a newer model. Better gas milage, safer.
That is nice story of an idiot.
You could paint it
How can such old car require little to no maintenance? It just sounds like your driving a time bomb...
The more I’ve made the shittier the car I get. It’s simple because the money should go into real estate or other non depreciating assets. If your car runs fine there’s no reason to replace it unless you are trying to chase some hot tail
It's time for an upgrade. There are a lot of safety features that didn't exists in 97 such as blind spot detector, auto steer for lane correct, automatic emergency brake for accidents, adaptive cruise control, and much more. Sure you might not need them but it surely helps and may prevent a life and death situation.
Adaptive cruise is a luxury not a safety option. With the exception of emergency braking, the others are just a patch for shitty driving habits. Pay attention and follow the laws.
All these things are expensive options on already expensive newer model (2-3 years) cars. With expensive maintenance down the line unless you change the car again
My family still rocks 90s Lexuses ( Toyota) and they come with airbags including side airbags. Though there isn't lane assist and AP2 but we're happy with that V8 for the old world charm. If you're worries about safety consider getting newer ones.
Get a car with active safety features for 25k. As you age your body needs more safety as it can't take as many hits and be normal - in case your car takes a hit.
Omg keep it. Cars are a waste of money to repurchase when you already have a working one.
Safety has gone a long way in last 20 years so that’s something to consider.
