I heard nio is shutting off in USA!
The Chinese-backed EV companies are not stable. I would be genuinely surprised if Byron, lucid and nio are around in 5 yrs
They will only last as long as the Chinese government keeps funding them. So who knows...
Lucid is Saudi backed
NIO is done for sure - Cruise. Also, Byton has some of the lowest quality engineers in the Silicon Valley after NIO. The real reviews of Byton are the negative reviews on Glassdoor - don’t ignore them. Also, never ever in your life join a Chinese company in Silicon Valley. Most of them are not good for careers of NonChinese folks and suck a lot. Just wait and look for some other decent place.
Don’t listen to this guy Hahahaha Byton > NIO
We have many non-Chinese hires here from Nio. But do not apply there, it’s a fucking shit show.
In terms of quality of engineers, would it be fair to say Lucid > Nio > Byton?
How can one generalize this? There are good quality engineers and bad ones in every company.
All 3 have had either layoffs or mass exodus, so all are at a similar level in terms of engineering talent. Only difference is that Lucid is now hiring whatever they can get, and the other two have no money to hire anymore
Come to lucid. We hire all races and genders and shapes.. and whatever else.. BUT we are very picky, we are only hiring the best engineers.
Avoid both.
How is Tesla doing right now? A lot of my coworkers left Tesla to join Byton for a less stressful workplace, but now it’s not so true anymore.
I have been at tsla for 6+ years and I’m good, lately more political than I like but still good, once you learn to navigate the politics and deal with some assholes it is good place to be.
Any word on Rivian? How are they doing? I wonder if they are offering good stock options/comp.
I wonder if the same cycle will happen to Rivian. Building a successful auto OEM startup is hard AF.
@cxevs, how is the compensation there? Do they offer competitive stock options?

Both byton and nio are actively doing layoffs. They hire non-Chinese but you should probably look elsewhere.
You are misinformed. Byton is NOT actively laying off. There was one round of layoffs in July and that’s it.
Oh ok. My bad. Hopefully it's not like seres. We aren't doing more layoffs because so many people are quitting every week anyway.
