I passed my behind the wheel test 5 months ago & have been waiting to receive the license in mail. No luck even after going to the DMV a couple of times. I have been told to call their number & the call just goes on hold forever. Has anyone faced this issue? If so, what did you do?
DMV checks with immigration to determine the end date of your residency so they can use that to set the expiry of your license. Immigration is generally slow at responding which is likely the reason for backlog There's a specific number u can call where you can fwd in a copy of your EAD which DMV can use as a proxy. At least this was what I was told few years back, not sure if still the case
Call the dmv's 1800 and ask for a call back if wait times are longer. When an agent calls back, ask them to put you through their immigration team. Most likely you will be given a 1 800 of dmvs immigration team. You can speak to their attorney with the date of your residency and they will be able to process your application. This worked for me recently. Good luck.
Just get your DL under AB 60. Effectively does away with CA DMV checking federal immigration status. You ll get a 5 year license!!
Same :(
