I recently went through 2 rounds of interviews with a company for a contract position. Upon finally talking to the CFO, he confirmed I should start the following Monday. The recruiter sent forms to fill out for background check etc. The role I was hired for was a Director and had the same title as that of a person interviewing me. So, I asked for clarification to the recruiter because the CFO wanted me to Manage this person who you could tell was very green. This person did mention that he would be reporting to me. When the recruiter asked for clarification, the next thing I know the position was downgraded to a Senior Analyst. Written offer was never made. I was stuck with telling my current employer I might leave. To add to this the Recruiter had presented me with a lower rate without my approval which might be another reason they didn't go through with it. What should I do?
Imagine if you would have gone to this company. Sounds all kinds of screwed up and better off not there.
Dodged a bullet but in future don't count your chicken before the eggs have hatched.
Name and Shame.
You don't trust verbal offers. I didn't quite my previous job until my background check cleared. The word of some people is worth nothing. Count your blessings, you avoided joining a colossal shitshow.
What was the offer?
To start within a week.
These companies ain't shit. Nothing is ever certain until it's certain. Even when you're walking into the building for your first day you have to keep interviewing. Not until the first check gets cut that you're "official"
This may be a sign of serious internal conflict
Don’t tell your employer you may leave until everything is finalized.
What's the point where everything is finalized? Currently switching employers and not sure when to give my notice
When your background check is complete.
