I currently lead an innovation lab and I'm looking to get back into software engineering. One of the companies I applied to just had a team come out for a demo to potentially partner with my company in the future and their tech stack was honestly really cool to me. At the end of the meeting, the PM who came out left his card with me. Is it bad practice to reach out to him regarding any potential engineering openings at his company?
I’d say do it smoothly. Build a relationship over time first and periodically drop hints like “maybe we can work together in the future” when the relationship gets to that point. If u do it outright I’d say it’s unprofessional for ur current company and potentially a conflict of interest.
Yeah the last part is what I'm most worried about
Yea. And besides, if you ask him now and he says no, it'll be difficult to ask again later. If you build a good relationship then there's more chance he'll want you in his company
Nah that’s called networking.
Awesome, thanks!
