Can I just leave today?

I had enough and can't stand an extra moment with my manager (and his management chain). I want to leave today. Can I just email them and return the stuff (laptop, badge, etc.) to the front desk and leave? Or do I have to wait for any legal paperwork to be done?
Update: no visa issues (already a citizen). Also this is not something that hit my mind today. I've been trying to work with him for months and nothing has changed. Switching teams is not possible 'cause I'm on dev plan.

Please don’t do it. Rage quitting feels good for 5 minutes and then you begin regretting your own impulsiveness. Instead, email the boss that you are not feeling well / leave right away. Go for a walk. Unplug. Then tomorrow, with a cool head, decide on a course of action.

I did this and was unemployed for 6 months. Sometimes job luck runs dry.

Give two weeks notice and cook up some story and ask manager to walk you out. That way at least you are not burning your Bridges.

The bridges are already burnt. 2 weeks?! I can't stand a second anymore.

  • Just do what Indians do in India. They stop showing up at work. After a week, the manager will call home and be told that the employee started a new job.
I heard it’s common in our Bangalore office.

Don't be so impulsive. Take a couple days off and think it through. Consider switching teams first. If you really can't stand it anymore, give 2 weeks notice and leave. That way you will be eligible for rehire. It's not worth burning bridges with Amazon.

Ohh wow!! That's horrible. Then you are right. Just quit. But think twice about your finances before you do so. I wish you good luck 👍

Thanks. Financially I can survive for 2 years without a job.
I'm just trying to understand if I can leave right away (like I explained) legally. Like is there any legal strings attached if I do so?

    • No it’s an at will job . However it’s harder to find a job if u r unemployed

@worldcup19 here in the US it is very common to take a break between jobs. You can always make up reasons to explain the gap. I don't think OP needs to worry about it much. Correct me if you heard of or have a different experience.

Take all of your vacation days and calm down during that time, maybe start applying to jobs if feel like it. Go back and give your two weeks notice. Coast for the last 2 weeks.

  • You can, no problem. But you shouldn't, as others pointed out is not good to act of impulse, just update your cv and start applying. Also quit mentally already so don't give a fuck about work or managers it is hard at first but with time you will get better I am talking from experience. It is much better to quit when you already have accepted other offer so you are not pressured to take some suboptimal offer you receive just because you are unemployed.

You need at least 48 hours for hr to calculate your final paycheck. Just dont be impulsive.

I wouldnt act on feelings. Just keep a cool head for a smooth departure. He needs to read internal papers on how to quit.

That’s different than saying it needs 48 hours to calculate final paycheck. Unless your intentions were to calm down the person ☺️

I've rage quit three jobs - the ole "Irish Exit" and it works great. Can't recommend it enough. Autonomy is the #1 key to a fulfilling life.

Meh, don't even turn stuff in - just send an email to the boss, "CC" some HR lackey, and out the door you go.

Thing is, it really helps have to have your life in order before hand - live frugally, save lots, have a deep and wide work network, and be REALLY good at what you do.

Twice I was able to find a job easily (like within a month or less) and the last time I ended up working for myself for a number of years (which I also can't recommend enough).

Don't rage quit. Ask to leave and collect severance. You should be able to pocket 5 digits depending on your tenure, it's worth it to be professional and patient.

Talk to your HR, i think if you're on dev list, you can just go on pivot.

HR is already involved, they just backed up the manager and didn't put me on pivot. Useless as always.

  • Mentally checkout and then don’t leave. Collect that paycheck for two weeks and see if you still feel this way.
    Jul 18 3
  • Give a notice. Once you say you are leaving just 'check out', ignore meetings, etc.
