Can Spotify Stockholm match a Singapore salary?

I currently work in Singapore with TC 175K USD and a 10% tax rate. I have an opportunity to interview on-site at Spotify for a PM role in Stockholm. Can they at least match what I currently make after tax? If not it's probably not worth flying Economy all the way there.

Great thing to ask the company. But a free vacation to Stockholm is worth.

Not vacay either Because their stupid embassy gave me a 3 day visa even though I've visited the EU twice in the last 2 years. That pissed me off to no end. Plus they insist on flying me Economy for a 15 hour journey because, Policy!

Oh nooooooo you have to fly “economy” how will you live?

Ps. Yes I’ve taken multiple international non stop 16 hour flights...go to sleep. Watch a movie.

Given its a 3 day visa, it's 16 hour flight, interview, then 16 hour flight back. Definitely not worth it if the job won't give a good offer.

Did you even read the response? Or were you too busy trying to be an asshole

The real question is how are you getting 175k USD in Singapore? That’s 240k sgd a year with 10% tax! I would move to Singapore in a heartbeat if I could get that TC over there. If you don’t mind me asking what company pays so much over there?

  • Expect about 75.000 SEK from Spotify Stockholm. They won’t match 175k for a PM.

I’d be possible to get a similar after tax comp in NYC.

After rent in NYC you end up with about the same salary as in Stockholm though

@bibibibi was the Uber offer in Sweden? Or another country? I'm trying to understand if they didn't make a counteroffer because you were comparing apples to oranges (in their eyes) or simply because they don't care to compete within their own country for other reasons (ie they only hire people who want to work there no matter what)
Put it another way: is 75k SEK the Spotify maximum for product or the Swedish maximum?

  • Cost of living is way lower there. So expect to have a lower offer.

Doesn't seem much lower. Their tax rates are high. Housing is scarce. I don't have/want kids so the free education, maternity holiday perks are irrelevant.

Even if you fly out, you probably won’t get an offer. Even if you get an offer, probably won’t match your expectations. Even if it matches your expectations, you probably will be pissed off how cheap they were with the flight and reject it.

    Save yourself a trip.

No way you can get that in the Stockholm office. NYC would probably match it, but they normally avoid the hassle of bringing people from outside the US due to how complicated it is to get a visa.

Financially, Stockholm starts being worth it when you have kids. If that's not your intention and the experience of the swedish lifestyle doesn't interest you, don't bother.

Can you please elaborate your statement regarding Stockholm being worth it with kids ? What are benefits does Stockholm offer, that may not be available in the US or Singapore

I'm not sure how it is in Singapore, but in Sweden you get:

      - Free education (from daycare to PhD)
      - free healthcare
      - free dental care until they are 18
      - long parental leave
      - when your kid is sick you can take the day off from work (by law)
      - the swedish culture values a lot taking care of children, so work environments tend to be really flexible with that

This sounds quite generous, difficult to believe such things exist in the outside world, when working in the US. Is English the primary language for business in Sweden too ? Also, how much of a pay cut should one expect when moving from let’s say Seattle to Sweden in a PM role ? How’s the housing market in Sweden, as expensive as Seattle ?

Have you read your question twice ? Do you think you have given anyone here any useful information whatsoever. It is like saying I make 100k GBP in UK, will Google Singapore match it ? At least give some info about your role, level, firm, yoe for folks to give you some insights

Heard great things about Spotify products from a friend recently, and life is Europe is also very enticing! Also, the music business is growing gangbusters and looks like the trend will continue for a while, so it will be a great place to grow and launch interesting products. Curious to know which company you are at and what you do there; I am trying to learn about the job market for PMs in Singapore.

Answering the questions, I have PM experience but currently work in a non-PM role. Tenured non-FAANG US tech company employee with a reasonably good performance across multiple appraisal cycles.

Once comparing different locations, it all boils down to cost of living, how much you will be able to save and quality of life not TC
