a colleague made this racist comment here at Intuit a few weeks ago and he is still around.
Talk to HR. If they don’t take action that’s fine but at least you tried. Racist morons have no place in this country.

I disagree. Imagine this person is a manager and ends up with an Indian IC under him/her. Do you think the treatment would be fair and unbiased? Racism has no place in a workspace.

Anything other than making sure the person who said it knows it was wrong is a bad first step. Pull them aside 1 on 1 and let them know! Going to HR first is not the first step in this case. Give the person a chance to fix it and not do it again.

Racism as any other sort of bias reduces your affectiveness like it or not. It's toxic to culture and that makes the best contributors leave.
Personally I believe in second chances. If he’s otherwise in good standing, owns his mistake, and is taking actions to understand and make amends for the hurt he has caused. But it would be a final written warning.
