Hi Blind, have any of you tried teaching your friends how to FAANG level-interviews that are in tech? Do you think anyone can do it with the time? Or is there an inherent talent gap
Trained my dog. He is pulling 350k TC at G and will soon be up for promo.
Yes, but success rate was low because of their laziness. Motivated ones didn't need teaching. It's more to do with practice than talent
I see, it sounds like you worked with several and some succeeded, that's awesome! What was your experience teaching them? Any interesting findings trying to work with them?
It worked with people who were hardworking but didn't know how to prepare and what to focus on. Many of them didn't work on system design and didn't know how to prepare. Some were focusing on competitive programming your questions. Most interesting finding is "there is no good book or portal to learn system design"
Anyone can do ir
Google's interview wasnt even that tough. I had tougher interviews from Jet and Oscar. (I'll be starting at google soon)
Of course you can cram leetcode. Can literally anyone do it given enough time and determination? I suppose most people don’t have the determination so the answer is no...
Yes, just like almost anyone can get good at playing the guitar or making free throws. It takes a lot of practice. Not everyone is willing to put in the practice, and you can't really force them to do it.
Guitar is a good analogy. I have been playing the guitar every day for fun every day for 2 years. While I can play a tune, noone will hire me as a guitar player. I am sure I can become a better player by practicing all day every day, but who has time for that (lol)
Yes US interviews are easier and you can find lots leaked questions in Chinese website
Which Chinese website ?
Ugh! Those Chinese websites. There are so many of them. But which one tho? Let me know which one so I can avoid it
I din't have enough motivation to do 3-4 leetcode a day, so I just did 1 every day for an year and got two FAANG offers. I used to fail all tech interviews before that.
That takes too long, plus coding is boring
But I'm lazy.
Look to your self without preparation if you interviewed now you will not pass, it is all about preparation.
What do u mean by “inherent”? As in, from birth, or as in, once they’ve completed college and have never mastered how to learn on their own?
I guess for both. After someone graduates college or is in college maybe they think they can't do it. But maybe they could with enough work. What are your thoughts on either?
Definitely don’t agree with the “inherent from birth” option assuming there’s nothing wrong with your genetics that interfere with rational thought. As for the latter, really upto how much can the person motivate themselves. It’s very hard to change btw. There’s a reason why Google has such a strong intern program 😀
