Anybody have any experience with flatiron or other bootcamps? Thining of taking a data science immersive - online, but still researching. In the process of a career change coming from a nontechnical background - undergrad in psychology with a masters in counseling psychology. Main concern is potential of landing a job considering the costs of these bootcamps and questionable reputation.
Bootcamps will help but also do personal projects to help you stand out
The certification means nothing, do a bootcamp if it’ll help you learn faster. Anyone can get a job in tech by learning programming, having a portfolio of apps/sites, and practice leetcode.
I did with data science. The best time to have done this was 5 years ago
The next best time is now
Best time to do a coding bootcamp was 2014-2016
The best article on data science jobs today is https://veekaybee.github.io/2019/02/13/data-science-is-different/. I strongly strongly advise against trying to enter the field unless you have a lead or close mentor who can find you an entry level position.
For SWE roles I would argue bootcamps yield you a significantly higher chance of initial consideration if you don’t have a relevant degree. Idk about data science tho.
Don't go for DS. The hype is dying.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Boot camps def pose a challenge when looking for a job. Degree helps when no yoe. That said u can learn coding by urself with help of free courses. Have u given that a try?
I haven’t - but I’ve taken classes on coursera.org - my concern is how to showcase this and get my foot in the door once I do obtain skills
I think the hard part might be getting interviews. Once u get that it's basically leet code all the way. I dunno maybe referrals will help. Or start with smaller startups and work ur way through to fang
