can I pay alimony for my kid from pretax money if my ex do not live in US(do not have SSN). divorced around 5 years ago. California

You can do it but the IRS will still collect taxes on it.

At least in California child support is not tax deductible. It is not considered income to recipient. (Alimony is tax deductible to you, taxable to the recipient, but the recipient needs SSN. Uncle Sam wants money from at least one of you)
