I keep receiving LinkedIn messages from people in companies like Andiamo/Solomon page/Quantitative Systems, etc. about several potential SE opportunities in the Tech space. Some even come up with opportunities from top tier companies. I once trusted a person like this who said she had some open job positions in Microsoft, Zillow, etc. But when I spoke to her over the phone, told me they were all taken by then and gave suggestions for some new company that I have never heard of. Wasted my time there. I’ve heard from a few of my friends that they have landed on a potential opportunity through these kind of middlemen, but their pay wasn’t what they would have received if they contacted the company’s direct recruiter. Might seem a bit rookie, but what’s the final take on this? Do companies really have in house recruiters as well as third party people employed for doing the same job?
Every interaction I’ve had with a third party recruiter has been negative. So no
They can be useful if you remember a few things. First, you are not the client. Their role is not to find you a job but rather to fill the role that their client is looking to fill- so they will always look to send the best candidate for the job, whether that’s you or not. Second, companies typically don’t have third party and internal recruiters recruiting on the same roles- so 3rd party recruiters may have access to roles that are not posted or going through them may indeed be your direct line to get to the hiring manager. And third, agencies sometimes have verbiage in their contract which prohibits them from being able to collect a fee for recruiting a candidate who has already applied directly to the specific role they’re recruiting on. If they ask if you’ve applied and you lie, this can be a gamble. It may enable you to get submitted to the hiring manager without the agency being able to collect their fee from the company OR it may reflect poorly on you in the eyes of the hiring manager, because you lied. Hope that’s somewhat helpful.
That’s insightful thanks!
Andiamo is legit for Bloomberg openings, from personal experience. I found their recruiters to be even better than some FTE recruiters from FANG+ companies.
Avoid them.
I believe that Microsoft do not use third party recruitment... So anyone claiming that has openings at MS is fake (unless they want to place you as a contractor in MS)
So that’s a no overall then.
Maybe 😜
A recruiter from Andiamo matched me to a startup which I like and which I'd never have found on my own. After connecting me with the startup, I worked directly with their HR department.
Generally No
