Long story short I was a victim of a SIM card swap hack. Person was able to get into my Gmail and then reset my Coinbase password, even though I had Google Authenticator turned on. Have a case open with them but don’t have any progress or updates for several weeks. Not sure if I still have my crypto (highly unlikely). Anyone that works there please help me out or escalate this I would be forever grateful to the Blind community.
I thought crypto was the thing, that’s on your control only. It’s distributed bla bla. At least with traditional money you would have recourse. But with crypto, you are fkd.
Suger, this is not crypto's fault. You lost access to your password on coinbase account, which is same as losing access to your bank account credentials, and then blaming the bank when some1 withdraws money using those creds
I had the same thing happen to a friend. According to Coinbase they may have been able to sync 2FA codes via iCloud. Also, be aware that he got SIM swapped again 2 weeks later even after he had fully locked down his phone with new PIN and a note on the account that said don’t bypass. There are workers inside these carriers that are paid off for these scams so no amount of “protection” matters. They told him he could lock them out of the number immediately if it happened again, but the second time they did the swap they did it right before the carrier’s weekly “maitenance” which allowed the SIM swapper to have control for 8+ hours. Since you can’t disable your SIM during that period.
Yeah unbelievable. I changed my security measures for Gmail since then and my cell phone number is not connected to Gmail anymore. SIM is the worst form of 2FA , unfortunately it is the most widely accepted.
Hey, what happened to your crypto and coinbase account
Good social engineering technique 🤣🤣🤣
