Can we as engineers do the needful and end this sham industry called Agile?

coaches, agilists, scrum masters, change agents or whatever they call themselves.

I'm sick of every morning being asked "what are your blockers?", "are you sure you have no blockers?", "what jira did you work on yesterday?" by a random dude that has zero tech background nor any touch with reality.

All they do is book meetings, play on their phones, watch "motivational videos" youtube all day and fly first class to 5 agile conferences a year.

I hate scrum calls too. There is not much that changes in a day. Daily standups really annoys me. If somebody is blocked, they always reach out to other engineers. There is no point in meeting everyday. Daily standups have turned into status meetings.

Sounds like you have a team admin and not a scrum master

I have worked in teams with non tech scrum masters and even with no scrum masters. In either case daily standups doesnt make sense to me. As daily standups turned into status meetings I feel like its like questioning everybody if you have been working or not!!

They tend to devolve but often these meetings are helpful for more junior team members. I can spare 5 minutes for their benefit.
I am glad we don’t have a scrum master

Lol I have daily stand-ups which are so damn annoying. Some PMs are so stupid , they don't even understand 1% of the technical stuff.

PM(O?)s shouldn't have to, if they're getting down to a technical level, they're probably overstepping

Yeah they do that with their unearthly demands lol. POs are better than PMs IMO.

Shouldn't PMs only exsist in SAFe as a transition Role? That's not real agile

I get why managers love agile, but I do not get why so many ICs drink the kool-aid. Agile is at odds with crafting the best possible solution.

We don't need a best solution we need a good enough solution most of time in a business context.

Agile is about delivering maximum business value.

If that’s the best possible solution, that’s what the plan should be. Often times, it’s not.

I know that sounds like it’s at odds with technical excellence (it is) - but you don’t get paid in leetcode, you get paid in dollars.

      Pardon me, what is IC?

IC stands for individual contributor. It’s a person who doesn’t have any reports and only does work - not management.

"We need to be agile" -> obviously
"We don't need to be agile" -> why do you hate customers and change?

Can't get rid of it ☠️

Maybe we can just admit that scrum is a management technique to ensure devs stay on track and communicate their work? Reinforced by the risk of peer embarrassment if you don’t have anything to say about your status.

I’ve never heard a dev say they need a scrum to do their job, but I often hear managers asking what someone’s status is.

I agree with the sentiment of OP's post but let's not kid ourselves: These people aren't flying first/business class. There's no glamour.

Not as painful if you limit it to 15 minutes. I think the most value for an engineer is the ability to decide the complexity/effort.

I see a lot of whining, but what is alternative you want?
Sure many companies turn agile into another nightmare. In its core, I think agile is very simple and straight forward framework that allows to hold people accountable and quickly adjust direction if needed. The rest is about implementation of that framework.

If your team has evolved enough to no longer need the strict version of scrum or other agile frameworks, set your own rules. It’s not really worth calling it agile otherwise. Be willing to go back to the traditional way though if your team starts seeing negative impacts.
