Which tech you work in Dropbox?

Dropbox bigbeans Aug 21, 2019

I think TC is the same across engineering, but I was on an infra team.

Visa Pompee Aug 21, 2019

Yes Canada sucks in TC. But I think the bigger problem is the high housing costs where the tech jobs are. I’m impressed with the level of activity here in Canada though. Some companies doing very interesting things

What is the TC at Square Canada?

New
pulk OP Aug 21, 2019

I guess around 120K

Visa Pompee Aug 21, 2019

You can get to 100 CAD + level soon if you’re in Toronto

At least you won’t get shot walking to work.

Oracle not_larry Aug 21, 2019

Are you in Canada?

Amazon SmkWdEvyDy Aug 21, 2019

Yeah, it's getting ridiculous. I've been shot twice this week in Seattle and it's only Wednesday!

Visa Jdmfe Aug 21, 2019

Wew square TC is fuckin lowball. Unbelievable!!

Square Mrja24 Aug 21, 2019

Er, you know TC includes stock right? That puts square above average on that Canadian list. It’s I believe similar for the US too, should be around 120k for sf/ny, I’d suspect anything lower would be for Atlanta where even 80 is doing great for a fresh grad.

Though TC in some American metros (mainly Sf and NY) seem to be double, you need to factor in the cost of living. You wouldn’t survive on 65k in those areas. I assume you’ll be able to afford a nice one bedroom apartment, not the case in Bay Area on 65k. Also, you guys get better health care. And you probably have less student loans.

No student loan 😜

Right, because Toronto and Vancouver are so cheap and not about the same as Manhattan. /s

OnDeck GPgj02 Aug 21, 2019

That's what you get when you have an open door policy for immigrant tech workers.

Visa Pompee Aug 21, 2019

I don’t get this line of thinking.... close doors and you’ll see jobs move elsewhere. Why do we deserve more money than someone else just because of where we are/ where we were born?

OnDeck GPgj02 Aug 21, 2019

If the doors are open, supply increases faster than demand. This leads to lower prices. Hence your frustration with TC in Canada. Really really basic economics. I suggest you study it a little. It might help in life.

But you get ‘free’ health care and maple syrup
