Hi folks, I'm also a victim of H1 lottery so I have to move to Vancover. The offer I got from Amazon vancouver is very less compared to what ever I have in seattle. Its almost like half of seattle offer at amazon. Are Canadian salary range too low.. A person with 10yoe with sde2 how much max we can expect at Amazon vancover.
Expect at least a 30% drop in salary plus less take home due to higher tax.
Newbie question: When you say 30% drop, you mean both the salaries are in USD right? Like if you are making 100k USD in US, you might get 70k USD salary in Canada?
@LCBO you have to do a currency conversion first before comparing tax rates. If you do it that way, Canadian taxes are higher at every level compared to even Cali.
Don’t do it...Canada Ranges are Garbage
What are your other options? Do you make more in your home country?
OP, what happens to your RSUs? Does it continue as it is? And what's the base they are giving?
Would you mind sharing your offer? I've been considering applying for a PR and moving to Canada.
Good to have a PR and peace of mind than 30% drop..
TC?
Each company pays as per some expense ratio ( not sure about this term) in the city/country they send you too. Your salary in USA and Canada won’t be same. for instance an ex coworker who earned 110k base in San Jose was transferred to Canada (east coast )at 93k.
Canada is 1/2-1/3 pay compared to USA. India is 1/4-1/5 compared to USA. So you are still ahead compared to India
Yeah, good luck with that. Striking out is likely what would happen
1 in 1000 startups at very best gets bought out and far worse ratio than that goes public. Striking out is the absolute truth about starting ones own company. Doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be done, but if the end goal is to get rich, definitely go a different route.
