Cancel L1B visa after it was approved

Got my L1B approved, but now have second thoughts about moving to the US. Can I cancel the L1B visa before even stepping into the US? Would that hurt my chances of getting another L1B in the future? I received a good offer from another local company here and am willing to take it.

Do you mind sharing your reasons ? I'm in the process of making the decision to move to the US and have doubts.

Have you missed the memo? People are having sleepless nights here. Either they get laid off or not getting H1B extension in this case or losing everything they have built etc etc

You don't have to move with an L1-B visa. It's for specialized workers and can be used for temporary/short work trips to the US. Even if you change employers and then never use it, just apply for another visa should you intend to visit the US. The US does not generally mind if you don't visit the US even though you may have a visa. They may even prefer it. You can always apply to the US consulate and ask them to cancel the visa. As long as your company no longer expects you to move out here, you don't have to do anything but stay put.

That is comforting. Thanks a lot. I already have a B1/B2 visa. Will that be affected in any way with L1B?

Not unless it was canceled? It most likely was not because you have not used the L1-B. Why are you worried though?

Usually they would cancel one visa, either at the embassy or at point of entry. Make sure they cancel the right one! Before you travel you might want to check with the embassy or your lawyer...?

A consular or immigration officer can stamp 'cancelled without prejudice on a visa for several reasons. Then the visa becomes unusable '
