Best place/platform/site time find a career coach for tech/it? Any suggestions on how to select/find a suitable career coach focusing on soft skills etc?
For management try platohq.com? We’ve also used BetterUp in house, not sure if it’s available to individuals.
I am not answering your question directly, but here is my thought: depending on what you need, you may find different helps: I found my career coach (super experienced in my industry) when she announced going consulting/coaching in the professional community I am part of. This is not uncommon in my industry, while in eng, this would be a rare path. You might need to find a generalist coach instead. For presentation/public speaking, I attended specialist coaching sessions (usually seasoned theatre people coaching executives before major keynotes). I can dig out the name if you are in the SF Bay area. I also have a mentor assigned at work (this will also help their performance review) on soft skills through my manager.
Thanks for your response, why generalist coach, why not select a coach who knows my field (tech)? My area of focus is softskills,I don't socialize much, not visible outside of my team though I am really good at problem-solving/design etc, yes I am in SF so please do share,
I do think it is ideal to find a seasoned coach in your domain, but I simply don't know many senior engineers choosing that path. I would love to be corrected if I am mistaken! I find that industry coaches are great at brainstorming career path/roles/opportunities/companies, while soft skills can be gained by hiring a generalist coach.
If you are a senior manager, company may sponsor you into executive management courses at a local university. I have seen eng managers taking a 3 days workshop at Stanford, for instance.
I am senior engineer
You can get that via Cap1 now. Search on CDC on pulse (career development center)
I used a mentor in the Bay Area with a tech and consulting background. Resume, interview prep, career advice, and so on. DM me if you want his info
I used an awesome coach in NYC. Happy to recommend
