Reposting due to lack of good responses Comparing Intel and Apple, How well they allow employee career growth up the ladder? How good are they in terms of employee education and growth? What should be my preferences to select offer between these two companies ? I was concerned in the long term, how they treat employees and allow their growth in the organization(allowing to change teams)? Ignoring package as of now, assuming both of them pay competitively. I would be happy to hear from the employees of intel and Apple Please let me know your opinions. Thanks in advance.
Depends on the group. Apple has more brand recognition than Intel and look better in your resume. It is easier to hop to different companies if it doesn’t work out. Changing team at Apple can be quite difficult as you need mgr approval for an interview. It’s 130,000 employees at Apple. Some managers can be nicer than the others. Culture is quite different than Intel.
But is it possible to change teams within Apple in the long run. I am a new grad and stuck at what decision to make, so that in long run I would be happy
I want to clarify that it doesn’t require your current managers *approval*. The policy is to *inform* your current manager, how he or she reacts is a different story about professionalism.
Hardware or software?
Hardware
I see, software here, so I'm probably not the best person to answer your Q
For leveling check out http://levels.fyi
Thanks for the link, but I am an hardware engineer for which I couldn’t find relevant information
The levels are the same for both HW and SW engineers at both companies, so the website is still a good reference for you.
Let's keep this simple: choose Apple.
I have worked at Intel and now at Apple for a few months. Apple for sure has a higher weight on your resume and I certainly got a much bigger comp jump from Intel. Intel will not pay as much unless you are in a very specialized role thats is driving Intel Strategy like AI, Self-Driving tech. Intel has a lot better work life balance compared to Apple. I have seen at Apple that people expect you to be physically present for meetings where as Intel is not too big in co-location. You can just dial in for majority of the meetings. Also, many people in Intel have the flexibility to change location and just ride Intel's internal planes to travel to other offices in case of important co-location needs. Job transfer within Intel is the easiest by far in my experience. I'm not sure how it's in Apple because im quite new here. In my just over 2 years in Intel I had managers from other functions approaching me twice to see my interest to join their teams. It was mainly because Intel froze external hiring. I assume its unlikely to happen at Apple. I think if you want to go for bigger brand and a lot more money go to Apple. If you want a relaxed life with low money go to Intel.
Apple, no-brainer. There is not much “career growth” at Intel.
+1
Agreed, Intel is dying. The place is loaded with BOZO management. The employees are demoralized. The exec management are running the company by Wall Street rules- which is the eventual death of a tech company. There is no “career growth” at Intel. There are promotions based upon URM status, but there is no growth. Promotion and growth are very different things.
There is no ladder at Apple, more of an inclined flat platform where levels are overlaps.
What about internal team changes ?
What about it? LoL
