I got both offers. Amazon principal product and google sr program. Amazon is in eCommerce and google is in mobile messaging tech jive. Which one is better from
Career, growth, perspective.
I’ve heard advised that eCommerce will be hot in India for a few more years to come and will pay more and the problems to solve are different. Mobile tech at google is no special and there are many people in that field.

What are your thoughts and Advice for me?

Principal product manager is an awesome role. Congrats. You would have a lot of impact. Amazon in India is expanding.

Amazon - there’s never a dull day. But that comes with its trade offs. Be ready to work long hours and say bye bye to work life balance. I agree role wise, principal product manager is probably a better role than a senior program manager (atleast at Amazon).

I don't know about Google, but Principal Product Manager at Amazon is a solid role. It comes with a lot of power and a wide area of impact. Also, as you said, e commerce is hot in India, especially in Amazon who is investing heavily.

Tech will drag you down at Amazon India. As a product manager you'd want your ideas in production faster than you think. That's not gonna happen in the Amazon India retail business org. Code changes are slow and it's gonna lead to a lot of frustration when you see all other competitors launch similar features much ahead of Amazon. Don't just blindly look at the seniority of the role offered at Amazon. There's a lot of bloat in the eCommerce org. I'd say take that google offer and run.

Isn’t nbu driven out of london or Mountain View. Whoever is launching products per the google India blog are located in London or Mountain View.

A basic detail is being missed - amazon is a product role. Program manager at google(you didnt even say TPM) is basically a release/project manager with no responsibility of product at all. Probably pays equal to amzn product though

I have also heard a few stories that google India eventually will ask teams to move to Mountain View to do something concrete. Recently they moved a lot of teams to Mountain View. Any googlers to comment?

It's not a recent phenomenon. People from Google India keep moving to US. Google Bangalore has been around 200 eng for last 10 years even though they hire 60-80 new people yearly. Attrition is mostly due to move to Bay area HQ.

Apps and NBU are stable growing parts of Google BLR.. Rest are not that stable in my opinion. A lot of the move to US happens at lower levels. They seem to be constantly looking for senior people to in fact move back to India. I have heard Google is a much better place to work than Amazon BLR.. but, your own role may give different options.

Rather than people wanting to move. Is that true? I’m actually looking to move long term and I don’t want them to ask me to move back to Mountain View again

And I heard that moves are due to company’s strategy to use Bangalore or Hyderabad as incubation or training grounds
