Career change to Financial Analyst

I am looking at switching career to become a financial analyst. My degree is in Political Science, I have no prior or reletive experience. Is taking the CFA a good investment or do most employers look at your experience and type of degree? Are there any other paths you would suggest to becoming a financial analyst?

I suggest you do more research into what you specifically want to do...ie equity, credit, fixed income? Sell side or buy side? Some will be easier with the CFA versus others. Regardless of what you target, you may want to position yourself as a sector specialist...meaning focus on the industry where your had sales experience. Having a deep industry understanding is valued in combination with an ability to analyze an investment opportunity.

What do you do now exactly? Financial analyst is a pretty broad term, do you want to be in investments specifically? if so, CFA would help but if you want to go into a different role it probably won’t do anything for you outside of investments

Sales management currently. I must admit my ignorance I was only aware of the investment aspect of that career.

financial analyst can also refer to internal finance/corporate finance for a company. if you’re interested in investments specifically, CFA could help. combined with your sales background, trying to get into wealth management might be a possible move for you
