Career growth

I feel stuck in my career. For some reason I keep switching jobs after 2-3 years and it's been hard to get promotion and grow in my career. I always get good reviews in my current job. Any tips for how to go-to the next level? Also am confused if I should be in the tech ladder or be on management side. Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

When you keep switching jobs, your reputation resets at the new company. Stay longer than 2-3 years

Why did you switch without getting higher salary?

Step 1. Stay put where you are. Step 2. Get promoted

Ask. It is harder for women and good managers should know this, but most likely you don't have good managers. Get a mentor (hackbright maybe). Build a career and professional development plans. Review them with your manager and mentor. Make sure you have regular check-ins on both and ask. This sucks, but in general ppl that don't ask miss out. For example, ask when the next promotion cycle is and ask your manager to help you get do everything you need to get promoted

Ask for promotions when switching jobs. You can always ask for a Senior Software Position if your previous position was Sofware Engineer. Once you are in a company as Senior Software Engineer you can start focusing on other aspects like being a team lead or getting into architecture roles in the same company.

Are you actively growing in what you know and contribute? Are you becoming an expert in your stack? Are you broadening your knowledge into other stacks? If you’re an expert in web, know server side, mobile, dev ops, cloud, automation, machine learning, security, AR VR, architecture. Being stuck is a choice. Growing is hard work.
