Career growth in FAANG

Hi. Got interview calls from FB, google and Amazon. But before I continue to prepare my self, I wanted to check what's career growth like in these companies? Do you ever get stuck in the same position forever? I have 8 YOE and I'm changing technology just to learn more and more. But I have only done BS(CS) overseas. Do you think it would be wise for me to apply? How much TC can I get with this much experience and can i move up the ladder or will I be stuck in the same position forever?

You literally cannot get "stuck." Tech is mostly up or out, it's not government work :)

At Amazon it largely depends on what team you land in. Some people get promoted twice in 3 years, others are held back despite 3 years of great performance. Not very reliable from what I've seen, but a lot of people start here and then move to F, G or other single-letter companies.

How did you get all the calls at the same time, is it for SDE? I mean I am very happy for you. I also want to be in the same scenario

Update linked in profile. And then either you pursue them or they will pursue you. :)

@ chase, In IT, People work for company. Company won’t work for people. Like chase any other company, if people leave , no need to worry about current projects. There are lot of people to handle any project. In FAANG, they see about your fundamentals in DS and algorithms and not on what u r working like chase. If u prepare well, u can apply it. It’s all depends on u. Everything is in your hand. In IT, people will survive on constant learning. Otherwise it will be difficult.

@fannie Mae - after reading your first comment it sounds like if the person is unable to move up the ladder then most probably they won't be able to get a promotion in the new role. Please read your comment. But either way let it be the end of this convo.

Banks promotions largely weigh on your relationships which is not what everyone expects of it at least in the IT world. Even a small fix to a bug sometimes require a relationship which doesn't seem right. Another culture that is supported is working outside of your normal working hours. People show this deliberately that they can work outside of business hours for more than 8 hrs. Now what type of work they do doesn't matter. They can break the working code and show that they fixed it again and people will generally be happy with it. Also there are more than qualified people in our bank but since they have money they just keep hiring new people on higher positions leaving the previous ones in their current positions. Moving to New technology stack isn't their thing either. They are slow and they rely on a factory method. Just crank out different use cases as fast as you can by developing modules and working more than 8 hrs.

I have seen plenty in different spaces doing such. But anyways not the point I wanna talk about as it doesn't lead to anything. :)
