Career options for wife

Hi all, would appreciate some opinions.
I'm on a H1B visa and my wife is a dependent. Since H4 ead is mostly going away and my wife would love to use her skills to work, we were thinking of the best options.

One issue is that she has done a 3 year bachelor's commerce degree from outside the US and most colleges in the US require a 4 year bachelor's degree.

Which University and course would you guys suggest in the bay area in the field of commerce/management that can also maximize the chance of getting a job on F1 Visa(as she'll get 1 year OPT)?

Would love some input. Thanks a lot!

  • OP I just want to understand the motivation of leaving everything behind while your parents grow older and siblings farther, sacrificing aspirations of spouse, living in constant fear of forced to leave one day once the visa expires, being bullied at workplace for being an outsider, never accepted by the localites, giving way to promotions to 'minorities' just because they need more representation, never appreciated for the contributions in nation building, no voice in politics or cinema, all to chase the 'desi American dream'?
    Is it worth it?

I just want to understand the motivation of typing this shit which doesn't help the OP while keeping your family, friends, significant other waiting for you to spend quality time together.

Only legit point is parents - everything else is BS. Loled at no voice in “politics or cinema” - damn son, you are the embodiment of a gullible consumer if you think you have a “voice” in India based on one crappy vote. Also, how exactly are you represented in cinema in *wood ?

Be ready to get trolled here. Ignore those idiots.

H1B rules are getting changed to give prominence to Masters/phD folks from US universities. So it may be a good idea for her to consider MBA or some Masters degree here if she qualifies.

If your idea is to take the H1B route via some masters program, rethink about it, because H1B for non-STEM is getting harder.

Even a 1 year work authorization would be ok as we'll be relocating back to our home country. Would be ok with no H1B

Most of the course gives you 1year OPT, pick something that has more job opportunity in your home country.

A suggestion that I know has worked in the past, have her go to the admissions department in the universities she is interested in and discuss her options there in person. Best not to mention opt and jobs just yet, but look at the programs that they offer based on her current situation. Then you and she should evaluate how those programs would help with immigration, work, etc.

Op, us universities might need 16years of education for masters. I might wrong here. Please cross check that. If she did 3yr bachelors that’s counts as 15yrs of education.

If you are looking for work authorization for an year, why not get EAD now? H4 EAD has no restrictions, meaning she can work anywhere, any kind of job. You have to pay $$ for masters education and you cannot work until you have completed certain credits (that’s 1 year before you can get CPT for internship). Check if SJSU or Santa Clara university are offering any coursework that she finds useful.

Whatever you do make your she is happy. If she is unhappy because she can't use her skills your marriage or quality of marriage is in danger. At this point unless you are in a really senior position I'd look at other countries.

There is more noice than any action on h4 ead revocation. I don’t think it’s gonna go away. I would suggest to grab it now and use it to get a job and try for h1b subsequently

I hope it doesn't go away! That would be the best case. Anyways I think there were rumors that there'll be news about it by the end of December. Let's hope for the best!

Do you have an approved I-140? Get the ead in that case, they won't cancel already issued EAD
