Considering relocate to NYC for BBG. Major reason I’m curious in fintech, which possibly expand my horizon. So how likely BBG engineers can end up with hedge fund like Citadel or two sigma? Another concern is, would it be easier to transform to non-tech roles in finance? I always assume finance has more non-tech ppl with more non-tech positions. While tech industry, as suggested by the name, full of mostly tech people. Also I don’t care too much about current TC. And seems BBG culture is much better than Amazon. But I care most about career path. (I really don’t envy the life of Amazon manager if that’ll be my job in future)
Even I have been thinking about moving to NYC and Bloomberg keeps coming up. Would they match my current TC and is NYC comparable to Bay Area in terms of living expenses
Pay wise, definitely far better than banks, but consider Bloomberg as a Tech company working on Finance world . As there are no stock option, the bonus is all in cash, so no worries about vesting, value of stock etc.. I also see the adaption of and contribution to open sources in many teams recently. Many considering commute from NJ where living expenses are comparatively lesser than NYC and homes are definitely affordable with the pay
Thanks !!! So for a c++ engineer with 8 years of experience what can I expect in terms of compensation. I’m at 440k now with FB
Fail
Bay area might be more expensive ND I don't think BBG can match Facebook's TC
What is the comp structure ? Just a bonus and base ? And do you have an idea about what it can for someone with 8YOE
Yes just base and bonus. Well IC can go up to 350k TC which is pretty good since it's all cash. And I have heard bonus can be crazy too. U coming from FB with 8 yeo I think u can get close to 300. I have 8.5 yeo and my TC is 250k but then I did not know about blind else I cud have negotiated to 280k
Why no one answer my questions? Thx!
OP coz ur question is weird. What do u want to know if BBG will be a good choice it if it is a stepping stone to work in hedge funds?. BBG is a good company really cares about the employees and tech might not be as good as Amazon but it's improving a lot
I know people who moved to hedge funds like Citadel. I personally get a lot of recruiter emails from hedge funds as well just for having BBG on my LinkedIn (but I'm not interested in finance and don't work on a financial product lol). It would probably be easy to move to an engineering role at the hedge funds but I'm not sure about moving into a non-tech role. As with all career changes, you probably need to put in more effort for that to happen.
How did you get into Jane Street?
Do u like c++?
