CareerLevels at Facebook for PM

I interviewed at FB last fall, made it to the on-site, but didn’t get an offer. I was told I could re-apply after 9 months (which would be August). Since then I have been crushing it at my current job (non-FAANG) and got promoted to Sr. Product Manager. LYFT just reached out and has me interested. Both companies seem to have the same tier levels, but I’m not sure where I fit. What makes someone an L4 vs an L5? Background: 8 years experience outside of tech 4 years as CEO of failed startup (no VC) 2.5 years as a PM then .5 as Sr. PM TC would be nice, but I’m more interested in finding the right level.

Ever since the merger, I have been listening to Pandora more than SXM. I have discussed this with my co-workers and they are all doing the same.

You’re going to be a 4 at FAANG. They don’t really value experience except as a PM, and really just at other FAANG. It sucks but it’s the way it works in my experience.

You don't seem to be crushing if it took 2.5 years to become senior PM after having 12 yoe

Probably L4. Regardless of level, try to get competing offers for maximum TC. In general, going from L4 to L5 at G/FB requires proven work and it’s harder to get promoted than outside. But at the same time, coming from non-FAANG means you’ll probably get down-leveled if hired. From Senior PM to PM or Lead PM to Senior PM (my case). Not so sure about Lyft, I heard it’s similar to FB’s ladder. Good luck!
