Hello, I am currently trying to switch career to SWE and I have been doing leetcode for about 8 months now(about 150 easy, 150 medium and 30 hard). I think I have a pretty good understanding of data structure and algorithm now. I wonder do I need project experience in order to get a job as SWE besides doing leetcode? During the interview, will I be asked about some projects that I have done? I am open to all the SWE positions(front end/back end, mobile etc). I studied Electrical Engineer in University and therefore don’t have software project experience. If anyone happens to know about this, can you please shed some light on it? Thank you.
You certainly need a personal project. How after 8 months do you have no personal projects? That’s so important. You don’t have work experience, personal projects are the only thing that will get you in the door. What are you going to put on your resume? “can solve l33t code problems!”
Hello Sir, thank you for the reply. Because I don’t know which sub-field(front end/back end/mobile or etc) I should dive in, should I figure out exactly the sub-field before choosing a project? Thank you.
Go for companies who ask only (leetcode) questions. Exclude all companies with behavioral round, they dig into situations.
Hello Sir, thank you very much for the reply. I wonder how to know which company only ask leetcode questions? Does the biggest companies like FAANG care about personal projects? Thank you very much.
Search on blind. I recall a thread about the same topic. FAA all definitely ask a lot of background. For me G was all coding L3. Maybe a bit of talking. No idea with N. Try for not FAANG companies like M or PayPal or some skill special teams
Why are you calling everyone sir? Don’t do that at your interviews.
Srsly dont use sir or ma'am. You're not getting a speeding ticket
8 months wtf?
Hello Sir, can I ask if Facebook ask a lot about personal projects during interview? Thank you.
I'll make sure to ask a lot about it if I interview you.
