Charter / Spectrum Mobile

Anyone here work in or have worked with any of the wireless groups within Charter communications or know anyone that does who may be able to provide some input to the state of the organization? I am internal the the company but have not been with Charter long. There’s an opportunity I’ve looked into on the wireless side, considering taking a stab at learning MVNO deployments for a large MSO like this but would like to know the state internally before taking the plunge. Anyone currently work for Charter that can speak to how their wireless side is actually doing, or anyone work for Comcast that was around during Xfinity mobile who could tell me what the culture was like building an MVNO deployment ground up like that within a major MSO at this scale? I worry more about culture than technical demands or expectations.

Wish there were more net eng & Telecom people on here. I do not have any insights into your question. Charter seems to really be growing and bringing on lots of folks.

Honestly this service is still growing and better opportunity is coming. Being this service is in the beginning stages I have found that it lacks in providing adequate mobile data for extended periods of time. A lot more noticeable than its competitors. Customer service is a struggle as well. Staff is unfamiliar with their product and can't adequately identify network issues or issues with their devices. All in all it's a work in progress.

I've heard charter doesn't treat people well but I'm dumb enough to work for comcast so what do I know.

What's wrong with working for Comcast?

I work for Xmobile and actually helped spec out the environment for the Charter MVNO. I'm gonna let you know that the biller they use is all kinds of messed up and stupid, but if you like a challenge, then you've got it. Culture is nice because it feels like a start up, but it is quite demanding.

It is going to be a rocky place for awhile. As with all fledgling business units, huge opportunities for both success and failure. If you like high risk positions, go for it. I have a friend that works in the department you are looking at, and he describes a healthy dose of positives and negatives. If you want something safer I would push towards enterprise engineering instead.
