Preferred is same Reserve just wrapped differently
One costs $450 annually and the other is free.
Preferred is 100 bucks vs Reserve is 450. But when you do the math of benefits you end up earning similar amount of points. I would prefer Preferred still.

The ONLY reason to get an Amex platinum is if you really want a lounge in SF international (G gates don't have any priority pass lounges).
They recently opened a couple in domestic where you get a 28$ meal. Not sure if that’s G gate, but it was pathetic to not have anything in domestic.
G gates are international... Most of star Alliance flies out of there. A gates has the Lufthansa lounge, but that's not accessible from the G gates.
