Chase managed account: worth it?

Anybody has experience on this investment product? Is it worse than automated investing platforms (wealthfront, Robinhood, ...), similar, better?

Chase has pitched this to me this, and of course they say it’s awesome, it’s their business. But what do you think?

Automated products have biases too, but I’ve always had that perception too. Algo trading is colder and less prone to biases. But I want to skip any perception and look at the numbers, the facts

They roll the dice. They pitch the strategies that worked the last few years but not the ones that went bust. Any strategy that went overweight growth or tech would beat s&p 500 last few years. You’ll be on the hook if the performance does not continue.

Wealthfront does direct indexing for accounts over a certain size where they buy each stock. That will get most or all of the benefits automatically and cheaply. Chase will probably charge you 1% or more for something like this and hope they get lucky. Not worth it. Wealthfronting and not tinkering when the market is crazy is the way to go unless you are a financial genius.

Is direct index for 100k in one account type or 100k in cumulative accounts under Wealthfront? Such as IRA + personal investment.

I don’t know. You’d have to check the Wealthfront site. I think it’s 100k in an account at Wealthfront though. Direct indexing only would make sense in a taxable account so probably 100k+ in a specific brokerage account?

Thx. From their q&a, it sounds like per account. Will update when I hear back from them.

Okay. Thought it sounded too good. IRAs don’t count for direct indexing.

Still a free lunch. Diversification with tax savings at minimal fee.
