A Chase recruiter is asking to show my ID to her over Skype. And she said there is no direct-hire in Chase. There is only contract-to-hire. Isn't that weird or is it par for the course that was not exposed to me yet?
Absolutely bonkers.
That’s freaking weird. Does she not believe your citizenship?
She was more worried about boguses showing up in different stages of the interview. I suspect even army is that strict.
They did ask me, it was through TekSystems. This was a while ago
Where are you located OP?
Ohio. Why?
I'm in NY and I've never heard of this contract to full time requirement. Must be something specific to that location or organization
Not sure about contract only options but she asked ID because they probably had instances where they interviewed one guy(someone who can pass the interviews) and a different guy(unskilled) showed up to work.
I would consider WePay. Subsidiary of Chase but independent hiring
You can imagine pro interviewers doing it for you or friends. Having said that, it is still very weird. Why would the recruiter (not interviewer) ask to show your id? Perhaps contact Chase recruiters and ask about it.
They do this because sometimes certain foreign companies send in other people to do the phone screens for you. Usually this happens when hiring through a third party recruiter though, so not sure why she suspected this.
There are instances of people paying more qualified individuals to interview for them in screens. Companies are starting to implement video and verification to prevent this.

I haven't heard of this. Maybe it's specific to the organization to which you're applying.
