Cheap but usable travel laptops?

I'm travelling and backpacking Europe and SE Asia for a few months and need a recommendation for a cheap but usable laptop. I need something cheap because there's a high likelihood of it getting damaged or stolen in hostels. I'll mainly be using it for coding (maybe some freelance work), booking flights, etc

Cheapest computer is the one you don’t have to pay for. Work laptop.

Sorry if it wasn't clear from my post, I left my job, but will try and find contract gigs in a few months

Can’t you go backpacking without a laptop??? WTF just unplug for a bit, it will do you good.

I intend to do this, but I left my job, so I'll need to do some work in a few months to keep going

Lenovos You don't need a laptop for backpacking though. Every hostel has a computer of sorts and use your phone to book flights lol

5 year old used MacBook Air on eBay. (Source: my primary non-work computer is a 5 year old MacBook Air and it runs all my devtools wonderfully)

There’s a good change your laptop is going to be fine. Just use lockers, keep it with you when traveling, etc. ~13” 2013 MBP Retina or similar will feel pro at $500 or less.. more durability than lower-end plastic PCs..
