I want to get my car serviced. I feel authorized dealers charge way too much every time, wanted to try some other dealer which are realiable. Any suggestions in bay area ? Edit : Car is 2.5 years old with 25000 miles TC 300k
Cheepest? DIY Reasonable? I dunno. 🤷♀️
You can take it to Toyota, will be a bit cheaper
Year? What kind of service? In or out of warranty? I wouldn't worry bringing it to any competent Indy for an oil change, or any other regularly scheduled service, assuming you're out of warranty. If you're still under warranty, it may be beneficial to have it done at the dealership if it's anything more than an oil change. Just to prevent any hassle later on (i.e. timing belt replacement). Say it lets go 3200mi down the road and destroys the engine, you'll have a hard time convincing Lexus to cover it under a powertrain warranty. If you're looking for a diagnosis because you're chasing an electrical gremlin, the dealer's gonna be your best choice, because they'll have direct access to Lexus diag tools (unless you find a an Indy run by a former Lexus tech). As for recommended shops; there's so many for Toyota/Lexus. There's even a good one right across the road from the Toyota dealership on Stevens Creek, Milpitas Garage in Milpitas, Toyota Lexus Auto Service in Campbell, etc. If you're in SF: it's worth the drive down, in my experience.
Can u recommend one for BMW as well? I am sick and tired of the dealers. Last time they wanted to do 14k worth of work on my 10 yr old car!
That's because they'll compare parts to like-new spec. Body mount bushing dry rotted? Replace. Hole in muffler? Replace with BMW OEM new. Etc.. You may have heard the saying: "It's not if you can afford the car. It's if you can afford the maintenance on it" as applied to exotics. It goes for exotics as much as it does old German cars. I'd know, I drive a 10+ year old AMG. So I DIY 99% of the work.. Having said that, there are some good Indy's for German cars around. Bavarian Motorsport in Milpitas, Elite Mercedes, Campbell European Motors, Autobahn Motorsport Haus, etc. But same advice applies; for any non-invasive work, find a competent Indy, irrespective of brand. An oil change doesn't require a BMW trained Master Tech, so any reputable Indy shop can deal with that. Ask around with friends/family/neighbors where they take their cars. Look for a shop people have been going to for a long time, no reputation of ripping anyone off, etc. But let's say you've got a BMW M5 V10 with bad rod bearings (a known issue on that engine), I'd be more inclined to find a brand-specific Indy such as some of the above. For example, they might have some tricks that prevent bearing wear going forward by using an aftermarket part. An aftermarket part that a BMW dealer would never even look at.
You answered your own question, anyone but a dealer.
Trade it in for a Toyota!
At 25k miles you need an oil change and tire rotation. Tire rotn is free at discount tire. Oil change is $20 labor $7 filter and $30 for Mobil 1 at any Toyota dealer
Depends on how much oil you need
Most suv and cars need the 5qt jug that costs about $25 from Walmart
Dealership = Steelership
