If anything, coverage of the regular, urban/gang violence would make more people think of owning guns for self-defense. Mass shootings have the opposite effect.

So you’re claiming the people in the El Paso Walmart are wealthy? I think you’re dancing around the real reason. The media gives it coverage when the shooters white, it’s a relatively rare occasion and it gets massively outsized coverage.
I think we should focus on the underlying health of society. I know it’s vague but that’s the driver. outside of confiscating guns on a federal level I don’t think more gun regs are going to make any difference at all.
