Are there lot of Chinese SWE in US? I came across lot of LinkedIn profiles when searching for people at specific company and they mostly are new grads or interns. Is it easy for Chinese people to get the US visa? And if it's not, then what as an Indian I can do to get abroad internship?
Most of them have a US degree. Abroad internship is not impossible, but should be quite hard.
Yes there are a lot of Chinese SWE. It’s not as common in NYC as it is in California, though. In NYC, many of the Chinese citizens are very wealthy and typically go to Columbia, NYU, and Cornell. Then they work in finance. Most who become SWE end up in California because they pay SWE much, much higher on the west coast. Getting an H1B is the same for everyone. Getting a student F1 visa is much easier by comparison, but our universities are much more expensive so unless you get scholarships, typically only wealthy foreigners end up in our universities. Getting an internship abroad here in the USA is not impossible but you have to be seriously impressive. It’s very rare, so you’d be competing against the top 1% of foreign applicants for those positions. Getting a green card is MUCH harder for India compared to China. India has something like a 10-20 year wait if your company sponsors your green card, where China is about a 2-3 year wait. It’s much faster, however, if you marry a US citizen. Hope this helped.
Thanks a lot.
I should have follow up on my first point; in NYC/Jersey City finance area, most of the developers are from India, both full time and consultants.
What's an example of "communist culture"? I've never heard of that reference before. I ask because most Chinese people I've met seem even more capitalistic than Chinese-Americans.
The CCP supporters. They're there to make American money or steal the IP. Only minority hates CCP
Half of Uber/FB is Chinese
Yet both of them are banned/sold out in China thanks to CCP.
