Posting my current New Grad offers to seek opinion 1. Amazon (SDE1) 108+ 24(first year )+20(second year) + 70k/4 (5/15/40/40) No team and location guarantees before accepting the offer :( 2. Walmart Labs (Data Scientist) Comp :- 145k + 23k (bonus) + 80k/4 (25% vesting each year) (5K first year / 10k(second year and so on) + 50k signon Team :- Team seems to compromiseof PhDs and IITians. So definitely I hope there will be a something to learn. Also team builds actual models and are doing some interesting stuff. A bit unsure about the general perception of Labs and if the hiring bar is different for SDE vs Data Science 3. Offer from a startup (Seattle) Comp :- 110k + 18k RSUs + 16k bonus + 15k (signon) A unicorn startup, but did not have any leverage while negotiating. Work is really cool backend stuff. Cannot reveal the name. I would only be the first few new grads to be offered a role. So not risking anonymity. I am personally okay with a nice backend engineering role as well as a machine learning one. If you could also highlight your reasons, that would be super helpful. Thanks !
I'd go for walmart labs and after 1-2 years try to get into top ML jobs.
Do you mean 18K options for startup?
Nope. They are RSUs, to be specific $18k worth of RSUs/ year.
What is your ms degree in ? I am curious as to the reason for discussing academic papers
Seems like a niche in ML would be more lucrative in the long run
Amazon doesn't have any better reputation than Walmart Labs and in your position I would focus on learning. You will learn a lot more at Walmart Labs than fear of being put on pip due to internal politics at Amazon (since you don't know what team you will be working with). Your TC at Walmart Labs is pretty high and Amazon stock isn't going to be significant for you compared to what people who joined 3 years ago had to boost their TC.
Guess it's Walmart Labs then. Thank you all!
Congrats š¾ Update us in 6 months or a year!
Hey.... I have some questions. I messaged you. can you please reply there ?
How was the interview experience for Walmart ds?
A mix of coding + ML interviews. Coding questions were Leetcode mediums. On the ML side, 2 interviewers were really good. They were with PHDs from good schools. We ended up discussing mathematical intuitions for some common ML algorithms and then went to discuss about a few popular recent reasearch papers and discussed them in detail.
Awesome. Do you have suggestions around resources to prep up?
