I need to choose the date for my Amazon onsite interview (SDE1). Is it reasonable to choose it about 4 weeks from now? I feel like that would give me time to prepare. TC: 130k YOE: 1
My total time from initial outreach to offer extended was less than 4 weeks
Of course it is. I scheduled my interview 2 months after I told the recruiter that I wanted to interview! That’s because I was having other on-sites in between! In fact, my recruiter said that she was fine with me scheduling it for 4 months later, if I wanted!
I schedule my phone in 4 weeks
It’s not unreasonable, but you should be warned that Amazon’s hiring philosophy is to hire the first candidate to meet their bar. They won’t stop screening and interviewing other candidates while waiting for you, so if one of those works out for them, there may not be a need on the team anymore.
What happens in the event of that to your status? Is your case passed to other teams? What does it get marked as internally?
When I’ve had that happen, I’ve cancelled the on site if it’s far enough out and the candidate gets recycled/put back in the pool of available candidates. If the on site does happen and I was inclined, I try to find another hiring manager to connect them with.

Absolutely fine. The recruiter wants you to make it through, they'll help in any way they can.
