So i like what i do my role company TC commute all is well but i was desparately looking due to an awful manager last year and did find a role i was highly intersted in. Due to transfer it took longer and by then i got promoted and moved to another manager who is supportive. Now i am at this point where i got to chose if i still move or stay. Both the jobs offer diff long term prospects(current taking me to a management track) and the Tc differs roughly by 20-30k. New job may have to have more commute than current. Advise ? How do you all chose when making such decisions ?
whenever faced with a choice like this ... i make a fucking decision. how do you get though life without being able to make decisions?
Oh and what and how u decide was the question btw. If u dont have anything to share gtfo
Current TC and YOE? Also where do you want your career to go? When you’re younger in your career py should make moves that benefit your resume and give you as many opportunities to learn; for that reason alone I generally recommend moving. At the same time if you have a comfortable situation and your company respects you (I.e. actively improves your TC and offers you growth opportunities) then I will say the grass is rarely greener
YOE:10 years TC: 240k I am 32, so younger in career you say? Comfortable situation : yes Company respects : considering i recently got promoted i say yes (also growth opportunities are limited but they do offer options ie a path to management) I dont know if the company itself not doing great plays into the decision.
So at that TC the 10% increase on the table is reasonable but definitely not enough to force a move; you’re still at the early stage of your career but by now you should have a good idea where you want your career to go (management/tech lead/IC4ever) and you should work towards that. Given your TC and YOE you could definitely bump your TC more than the 10% on the table but that’s all about whether or not you think you’re worth much more. I would say stay and keep looking; if you’re not feeling super bullish on the offer on the table and you don’t have anything forcing you out the door id wait until something you’re really excited about comes along
