My background: currently a Ph.D. student. TC: 40000 USD YOE: Ph.D. + internships in search engine company. Citadel Securities London. Base 125K GBP + bonus (they told to expect 200+K first-year bonus). Have heard that they pay same numbers in Chicago and London => the base looks low (ppl with the same background are getting 170+ base in Chicago).
Bruh that shit in pounds. Pound is v low due to brexit—they prob set salary exchange rate at the beginning of the cal year when it was higher.
Yeah, told me it is subject to adjustment at the beginning of a new financial year which starts in April in the UK.
Basically trading currency then! Which way will the pound go?
London way fucking better than gd Chicago though.
Focking* (corrected to make Brits feel happy (
@risingup top joke BTW :) @HxQh73 COL is pretty high in London, rentals near their office in London are >= 2500GBP for a decent place
What’s your phd in?
Sort of algebraic topology
is your first year bonus guaranteed?
No.
I see - do you have preference between LON and CHI?
Philosophy majors can't be choosers.
Btw, the best "quant finance professional" I personally know (and the richest man I know personally) studied homological algebra during PhD studies
Interesting!
Insane offer for the EU. I still think Citadel recruiters are a bunch of 🐖 though.
> Insane offer for the EU. Agree in general. But at the same time, I've heard that Citadel (and all the companies under their umbrella) pays the same dollars in each country. Given that assumption, it could be on the lower side of things.
Are you from a US or UK institution?
Neither.
Oh I heard UK PhD students have to pay tuition if no scholarships lol
chi is much cheaper to live in than lon if finance is important to you
Sure. I just do not have an opportunity to start in Chi due to Visa problems.
Did they offer any sign-on bonus or does the offer include only base?
In general companies pay way less in Europe than in US. Also since your salary is in pounds vs 170k of Chicago could be in USD. So there is not much difference. Around 20k I guess
Understand this. But 170K USD is on the lower side given my data. Surprisingly, I have many data points on Chicago comp, but ZERO on UK comp.
