Citadel TC growth

Got offered software engineering role at Citadel in a back office team (reconciliation) with first year TC around 225K (includes 50k guaranteed performance bonus). Whats the growth potential of the compensation (base and bonus) for a pure back office software engineering/IT role? Where can I see the comp by the end of 2nd year, 5th year etc? Is the ceiling low or have i already reached the ceiling? How does this map against FANG?

Dont be swe at trading firm. You’re someone’s bitch. Swe gets highest priority at google. At trading firm, be quant or scientist

Agreed but my question is purely about comp

Well bitches don’t get good growth ;) You cant go from swe to ceo. You can go from quant to ceo.

Well, I know quite a few people in HFT who make a bank doing normal swe. I want to know how Citadel is in this regards. Dont care about crazy quant salaries

Probably similar to what you would expect at FB/G

How many years of experience?

There are many datapoints of citadel swe becoming quants after 1-2 years. If you can make it, then it’s good. Look on linkedin if you dont believe me. I know someone who took this path and i think they make around 500k now (as a quant) with 5 yoe. Wlb sucks tho. Expect 60hr / week at least and on call

Being a quant is entirely up to you. I would be surprised how a top hedge fund can retain top software engineering talent by paying below market to G/FB/NFLX.

Chase tjPE83 May 18, 2018

They can’t. Many of them do move to fb g nflx. But those who become quants make banks

Mesosphere onsie May 18, 2018

That might be true at Chase and other banks. Banks != Top Hedge Funds

Can’t disagree. I think that we developers need to stop worshipping the finance industry. That is also what got me here in the first place and now regretting it. Also op, dont FB new grads also get 200+ TC? Lol. Wondering why u’re looking to leave. Happy to fill your spot haha

For a backoffice role, TC growth will be pathetic, even if you're a rockstar. Expect low single digit percentage growth. Also, your exit opportunities will be severely limited after 5 years doing backoffice work in finance. If you're an SWE at FB, this will be a terrible move for your career, and for expected comp. PM me if you need more info.

Can you talk a little about how this varies if you're working on something like portfolio or execution optimization infra for a desk? These sound like very interesting technical problems so I am trying to square this with all the bad things I am reading on Blind...

I joined citadel at 2 yoe with 420k TC. After 3 years, it became 480k.
