Civilized talk about why you voted Trump

Oracle datornator
Jul 28 172 Comments

If you did, why'd you vote for Trump, and were you fulfilled? What do you agree and disagree with? Looking for serious answers.

Some rules for the thread:

- Please try to be detailed in your replies. "MAGA" and "democrats are bad" isn't helpful, and I'd like to better understand.
- Be the better person and help us have a civilized discussion.
- Please refrain from terms that you know will set people off, either side of the fence. If it sounds like something the Donald or the Squad would say, rephrase it.
- Don't feed the trolls. They'll have babies.

      OP
How should we gauge what is and isn't ok for kids? As evidenced here, there's clearly disagreement on what the "common sense" thing would be
      Jul 28
    • Netflix misterio
We can’t gauge unless we study very carefully, but it’s a very risky business not to do it. Before we can be confident - don’t let mentally damaged people to adopt kids -child need a mother and a father, that’s biology talking.
If you prove me otherwise - great. But study first

      Good question, who can tell?
If we have a choice let’s always have mom and dad.
Only if the parent died or something, let’s consider extreme weird solutions, hoping it would not damage kids sanity

Most of trump supporters hate something or everything of following
Minorities (Muslims, Mexicans, Blacks...) Non whites
    LGBTQ
    Assertive women
    China or friendly Europe
Media( except talk radio and Fox News)
Successful role models( Sports or Hollywood stars)
    ....... many more
Basically his supporters and voters have common desire to see people who they hate suffer and derive joy out of it.

Trump somehow got support of people only based on hate. Trump doesn’t have concept of win-win.

USA should elect person who inspire and spread positivity in 2020 otherwise we are doomed.
We need people like JFK in 2020.

Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you shout anything you want on every corner. Yes You can do it but it doesn’t mean you should.

    • We have freedom of speech. Right wingers are also not going to report your post as offending our feelings. We like discussion. The only thing we can't do anything about, is your hatred towards this country and its democratic process. It's telling when the haters run wild. 😂👌🍿

Not voting anyone would've been equivalent to voting for Hillary.
The only way to keep Hilary away from the white house was to vote for Bernie in the primaries, and then vote for Trump.

Good question OP. I'll answer this from a personal perspective. These are ranked in order of importance to me:

    - The democratic platform has momentum in socialism. This is utterly offensive to me. These tax plans would increase on middle class earners; yes, including all of the low six figure salaries that make up this forum. I've worked hard, already paid for college, and eventually earned a high paying job with benefits. I don't see how I benefit from any of the progressive plans put forth.
    - Supreme court nominees. I don't want to see social policies like abortion and gay marriage reversed and don't believe they will be. I do however want other certain constitutional rights enforced. These justices serve for life (which is insane) so regardless as a conservative I'd like to hedge long term conservative here.
    - Stop the global US apology tour as a foreign policy. I felt the Obama era of foreign policy was far too soft. See the billions of dollars air dropped to Iran as an example. Surprisingly, they don't seem very appreciative today.
    - I think a conservative in office is keeping the bull market running on fumes. A political shift (to socialism especially) would likely disrupt this.
    - PC culture has/had gotten too extreme.

Keep in mind there's a large constituent of voters that didn't vote for him in the primary but ultimately had to in the general election. In their eyes, he can / say whatever and would still get a vote for the reasons outlined above. I fall into this category.

All that being said I will vote for him again in 2020. Now queue the liberals roasting me because we have differing personal opinions...

The issue isn’t about “killing children” but about when the fetus becomes viable enough to actually, definitively be a child, irrespective of it’s habitat. If it can’t survive outside of the womb, is it actually a child?
      Jul 28
    • E*Trade / Finance cbEV72
You want done binary decision in a continuous situation. A prematurely born child can not survive on his own but we figured out how to help them live. As a result premature born babies now are just fine and become healthy and catch up with the rest. Do you really think it’s exact day count that makes a baby a human being? Cmon you’re bettter than that.

A baby is a living organism, a distinct human. Maybe not at day one, but quite early in the process. Abortion kills that individual. It’s just the matter of who decides and when. Period.

I’m not for outright ban on abortions but I want honesty. I want all parties that decided to kill a human being to acknowledge that they decided to kill a human being. Like with capital punishment, we do t declare a criminal that he’s not a human all of a sudden. We consciously take responsibility to end his life because we don’t want him to live anymore

What gets me about the whole abortion thing is it's so often talked about as women right to control their bodies. But it's half the guys child. And women can get rid of it or nurture it at their option. Regardless of your gender a zygote has potential for life that is undeniable. I think it should be up to both parents. Not just one.
      Jul 28
    • ^^ Women want full control over their bodies, and on top, a child support. 🤣 This is blatant arrogance to me. Yet one gets skewered just saying that publicly today. It's sickening.

Not every woman. I like tulsi gabbard, and have no idea who’s her husband.

Another example is Kelley Ann Conway. Her husband is a total dbag, and is acting like a asshole. She’s not going for presidency but I was very impressed with her accomplishments and her husband seems to only trying to spoil her career

It’s disingenuous to cast people’s dislike of Hillary as misogyny. I for instance was disappointed with Kavanaughs nomination because I thought there were excellent women judges who’d fit Supreme Court and conservatives too

@MS just following up on things I find interesting and would like to hear responses to. If I was asking voters on the other side, you'd see similar questions. In this case I'm actually with the E-Trade poster, concerned by political "dynasties" as well. Just wanted to know their opinion on one seemingly present here as well, given the context of the post.

The "PC bullshit" from me is just a basic rule of productive interpersonal communication. Asking questions is much more productive than jumping to conclusions, not to mention personal attacks. Of course though, you don't have to participate in the discussion if you don't want.
      Jul 28
    • ^^^ First you are questioning people why they voted for Trump. Why? Then the person explains to you one reason, to not create bureaucratic monarchies, and the next question is - hey, but how do you feel good about his families participation? Isn't it something similar in other words.

You don't feel good about it? Why? Is it unusual?! The only unusual thing is that Trump has a rather large family and his children are grown ups.

This is BS to me. You can call it curiosity. 😂

I supported Obama up until his 2nd term when him and the left started with the blatant fake news and demonizing anyone who spoke out against leftist extremism. So Trump is the only one who stands up to the militant leftists who call everyone racists. I don’t want the leftist morons anywhere near a seat of power because we’ve already seen the damage these types of people do in Seattle. Trump is a necessary evil for USA right now and IMO he would win with even more votes in 2020. I don't see much reasons for Trump voters to have changed their mind and on the contrary I only hear statements like 'he was not as bad as I thought he would be' and even some liberals I know like him (over some democrats).

Myself, I don't vote. It's just too stupid to agree to give any single individual that much power over a long period of time and not want to be part of that stupidity.

How stupid do you have to be to not want some fresh blood and root out some of these corrupt power structures? Sunlight is the best diseninfectant

Secondly, Trump's policies on China are right. Our trade policies are archaic, we've trade hegemony and power projection for economic benefits since we started rebuilding Europe during Marshall plan. Time to stop bankrupting the country abroad.... And invest in the people and infrastructure at home. Healthcare, fixing immigration, trade policy, calling out NATO allies to pay their share, could go on and on about the policies. Democrats ran on "temperament, emotions and feels" no thanks

OP, I appreciate you starting this thread and trying to keep the discourse civil.
IMO biggest reason Trump voters voted for him was that he was the Republican candidate. They agreed with him way more than they agreed with Hillary. Trump's approval rating among Republicans is almost 90%

Partisanship is a really strong drug, on both sides. Democrats will vote for the cringiest democratic candidate over a Republican.

Research shows that on Politics, people decide first, and then make up reasons to support their decision. Read "The Righteous Mind" for more on this - a must-read for everyone interested in politics

I'm extremely left leaning, but I promise you Democrats would've done the same for their 'guy'. They did for Bill Clinton - who had undying support in the Democratic party when he was f*cking an intern, as POTUS.

You don't have to 'board the spaceship' - fight for your side. I certainly am - there are lots of people on the middle who can be convinced). But perhaps with less animus, less hatred and more empathy towards the other side? After all, tolerance is one of the virtues we (the left) hold in the highest regard.
