Basically what the question says. I'm at Google, manager says I'm doing extremely good technical work, and I want to keep learning and climbing and taking on more responsibility + title + TC. But I dont really want to become a people manager which seems like the default track. How can I go as far as possible (title + TC) without just managing a bunch of people? Down to leave Google but would rather not in the next few years at least. TC 180k-ish? 1.5yoe
TC and YOE
If you have only a couple of years experience your next target is to become a mid-level engineer. Find your sub-domain and become an expert in it.
Jeff dean track? Probably one of the highest level and highest paid IC anywhere.
When do you expect to be managing people on current track?
I mean, you’re the G guy, you tell me, but I hear that there are TLMs and EMs at G, the TLMs only worry about the tech stuff and EMs only worry about the people stuff.
Tech track?
I'm a regular SWE doing a mix of regular SWE stuff and ML
No I'm saying why dont you climb the technical track if you dont want to be a manager/people person.
