Servce providers are taking an increasingly active role in purging questionable content off the internet. Thoughts? https://new.blog.cloudflare.com/terminating-service-for-8chan/
Slippery slope. Free speech means stuff one finds offensive is allowed to exist. 8chan will go elsewhere. I also find it funny google delisted /The_Donald and 8chan.
Cloudflare already acknowledged that 8chan will go somewhere else. They just didn’t want to take the heat for this anymore which is a sound business decision to not constantly have few employees always responding to FBI requests about data and shit.
This has nothing to do with free speech
Wtf? The Christchurch shooter was using Facebook live and yet FB isn’t banned?
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/04/technology/8chan-shooting-manifesto.html Creator himself wants it to be shutdown
A really courageous stand to take. You either provide a platform for hate speech or you don’t. Glad that Cloudfare didn’t hide behind the cowardly rhetoric like “we aren’t doing anything illegal”. Great stuff, really proud that Cloudfare got some balls to send a message out to the Internet that they won’t let anti-social elements walk all over them.
It's fine, web hosting isn't regulated (yet)
Blind will be next
Completely unacceptable, provided that 8chan did nothing illegal, IMO. Cloud providers are public utilities, like the power grid.
If you feel so strongly about this, go sell Azure to 8chan.
That’s above my paygrade, but if it came up to a shareholders vote I know which way I’d vote.
