I'm getting separated from next week involuntarily. I got an offer for $43 an hour at a utility 2 hours away to work on rotating shifts. They are super excited about me which honestly feels good. I am kinda over the shift work though and not sure I want to move. Just wondering if I'm being cocky in turning down a good paying job when I'm about to be unemployed. And I've been doing this for so long I don't even know what's out there, so I also wondered if there's a good skill that is pretty easy for a smart person to pick up in 6-9 months and make a career transition. Everyone on here seems to have a cool background but I have no clue how you got there. How did you get there? Thanks
Is money a worry if you don’t have a job for 2 years? If you are prepared then yes go learn something new that makes you happy.
Nah dude let.someone more deserving take that role. You're so much better with a TC of 🥜 so hold off for the perfect role instead of boosting your resume and getting more experience.
It’s definitely not cocky. If you don’t see yourself happy with shift work or moving to Orlando, why commit? You’ve admitted you don’t know what’s out there. Provided you’re financially sound enough to back it, taking some time to explore other opportunities sounds like a good idea.
Know your worth. My SO had a job offer for $35/hr. Turned it down. Got a job 4 weeks later for $90/hr. What are you worth? Aim for that.
Take the job while you look for another job. Never ever not have a job. UX seems to be the popular thing to quickly train on. These days big companies even hire entry positions that go to camps and learn how to code over a few weeks. But are you prepared to go down in pay a little so that you have more options and mobility in the future? Are you prepared to put in the work to actually get those jobs — and more importantly do those jobs even exist where you live or are they rare and super competitive?
you can always just quit as soon as you get something else.
First, never take the first offer. Counteroffer at the price that it would be worth taking “shift work” for, then keep looking for the dream job. Out tell them you’re considering other options and buy a few more weeks before you commit. Good luck!
I think that’s pronounced “dumb.”
I decided to turn it down. The shift hours were making me sick. I'm not made to wake up at 4:30 am and work 12 hour shifts. It would be ok if it started at 8 am. But now I'm sitting at home depressed and laid off. Why is the world so hard
I get that. I think time off will make you want an opportunity like that more. Eventually you get hungry for just accomplishing stuff regardless of the situation
Just stupid
