Coding interview for hardware engineer

What type of coding questions are generally asked for a hardware position and also if I am preparing using leetcode, should I just stick to easy questions?

We ask questions about SPI and I2C (and other interfaces) to make sure they really have experience with this stuff and didn't just skim the Wikipedia article the night before.

SPI and I2C? surely not that trivial

We had a number of people claim they understood protocols but couldn't answer even basic questions about how to get data from ADCs and stuff like that. Apparently people just made sure to add a lot of buzzwords from the job posting to their resumes, so we had to tweak both the job wording and improve our vetting to find the people who actually have worked with embedded designs at this level before and not just become bullshitters.
